80 Meter Vertical All Band Antenna

My Loop Sky Wire antenna has been down for a few years and the trees have grown to the point that replacing the loop has problems. So, there comes a time when one must bite the bullet and pursue other solutions. To that extent, I present this project.

DX Engineering DX Commander CLASSIC 2 Plus 80m HF Multi-Band Vertical Antennas CLASSIC2-80

The antenna has been ordered and should be delivered "real soon now." Total cost, w/tax, $450.45.

Vertical antennas need a ground plane to work against in order to produce a proper radiation pattern. Installing radials to create this ground plan can be the bulk of the work. The challenge is to get the radials placed on the ground so that the lawnmower does not tear them up. Flush to 1/4" deep is all that is needed.

I think I can lay them out and use landscape u-shaped spikes to anchor them in place. Over time, they will be covered with thatch. Anyway, that is the plan
